James Baron

Seminarian for the Diocese of Colorado Springs

I grew up in Elizabeth, CO, attending Our Lady of the Visitation Parish. When I was young, the Lord seemed to be opening me to a vocation as a priest down the road. On the (good) advice of a respected priest, I became very active in high school; dating, sports, Boy Scouts, and making the most of everyday situations. Towards the end of my senior year my plans ended up changing from attending college at the University of Colorado in Boulder to St.John Vianney College Seminary in St. Paul, MN. It was the personal witness of life of those men and priests I had known, men who imitated Christ, that greatly influenced me to take that step.

The possibility of joining a group of men who love their faith, are willing to give up their lives to find them in the Lord, and who have the vision to be leaders in the Church was very appealing. Those four years in collage seminary, earning my Bachelors in Philosophy and Catholic Studies, were a time of great spiritual conversion and growth, equipping me with an apostolic zeal and love for the Lord to continue on. Now I attend the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy, where I study theology in another house full of men, young and old, who love Christ, who love the Church, the Eucharist, the Pope, our Blessed Mother, and want to step into the great ranks of parish priests to serve Christ and win souls for Him.

If you are considering a vocation to either the priesthood or religious life, just check it out. As a great man once said in regards to discernment, "its hard, but its not that hard," it must be done within the seminary or religious house. For any parents who may come across this, encourage your kids to think about it, and please to not be anxious for their sakes. It is a wonderful call from the Lord, what better could one ask for their child?
